Mill Neck is a village in the town of Oyster Bay. The small village is only 2.9 square miles with 825 residents as of the 2000 census calling the area home. The village received its name from the mill built by Henry Townsend during the 17th century. The original area of land was sold to settlers by the Indian tribes for utensils, coats, and wampum. During 1663, the Dutch and English fought over the land. William Robertson Coe purchased 409 acres of land in 1913 for his own mansion and Planting Fields. The village became incorporated in 1924 and before long was home to many elegant mansions including Oakley Court which was constructed in 1936.
